The only regional centre of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), located at Khaniyara near Dharamsala town, will soon be starting Master of Philosophy (M Phil) courses in five disciplines.
Director of the centre Kulwant Singh Rana informed this in a press statement issued here on Monday.
“The HPU academic council, in a meeting held recently, has given its nod to run M Phil courses at the regional centre,” Pathania said.
“The course will be started in only five disciplines where permanent faculty is available,” he added. Besides, the academic council has also approved professional courses- Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Computer Application (MCA) -for the centre.
Established in 1992, the regional centre runs over a dozen courses in arts subjects and two professional courses- Bachelor of Law (LLB) and Master of Mass Communication. The new courses approved will be started in the next academic session starting from July 2015.
“The centre was shifted to the new building last year where we have adequate accommodation to start more courses,” Rana said.
“In the near future, the centre is also planning to introduce LLM, B ED and some more professional courses,” he added.
He said since the institution was located at outskirts of the town, major problem was that of transportation and canteen facility. “Three more buses have been started for the centre, while canteen facility has also been started from April 1,” he informed.
Rana said that indoor sports facility centre had also started functioning where table tennis, carom and chess facility was being provided to the students from this year.
