Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) will confer honorary doctorates on Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan and former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) K Radhakrishnan.

Besides, vice-president Hamid Ansari will also award honorary degrees to poet Govind Vyas and veteran journalist Vepa Rao in the convocation scheduled on June 9.

Sources in the university said the doctor of letters degree would be conferred on Raghuram Rajan and Vepa Rao, while doctor of letters (language) would be awarded to Gobind Vyas. Doctor of science degree will be conferred on K Radhakrishnan.

As many as 154 PhDs and 144 gold medals would be conferred to the students of the university at the convocation.

Sources said Radhakrishnan would be honoured for his services to space science. Radhakrishnan is chairman of the Indian Institutes of Engineering Science and Technology since December 2014, and had served as ISRO chairman between 2009 and 2014.

RBI governor Raghuram Rajan had last visited HPU in May 2014, and interacted with the students.

Earlier last year, the university had conferred honorary doctor of letters degree on Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.
