Of night clubs and the dark side: Murder in Chandigarh puts spotlight on life of bouncers

On Punjab police list of gangsters, Faridkot’s Rinka fears fake encounter: ‘I want to change’

He is out on bail and claims that he is no longer involved in any anti-social activity. Yet, Gurcharan Singh ‘Rinka’ of Dogar Basti in Faridkot is on a list 35 gangsters released by the Punjab police recently. “I am shocked,” he said as HT talked to him on Monday. Bouncer’s murder: Gangster Gounder says on Facebook that he is not involved

Sukhdev’s 110th birth anniversary: Two groups spar over claim of being freedom fighter’s kin

A major controversy broke out at a state-level function to mark the 110th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Sukhdev, when two groups exchanged heated arguments over their claim to be the revolutionary’s kin. Sukhdev was 23 years old when he was hanged by the British along with Bhagat Singh and Rajguru on March 23, 1931. Read full story here
