Husband booked in dowry death case

The Mandi Gobindgarh police has registered a dowry death case on Thursday following a viscera report which proved that the victim allegedly committed suicide by consuming celphos pills. The chemical examination report made it clear that it was not a natural death but a suicide case.

The Mandi Gobindgarh police has registered a dowry death case on Thursday following a viscera report which proved that the victim allegedly committed suicide by consuming celphos pills. The chemical examination report made it clear that it was not a natural death but a suicide case.


The victim has been identified as Shilpa, resident of Gobindgarh. The police have now booked her husband Gurinder Singh, resident of Gobindgarh following viscera report. According to investigating officer, Balwinder Singh, Shipla had committed suicide on August 25, 2013 and after that the police initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPc.

The police had also sent the viscera for chemical examination after the post-mortem examination. On Thursday, the police got a report confirming that she had consumed celphos tablets.

Singh also said that during preliminary investigations, it has come to notice that the husband was harassing her and demanding dowry.

The police have registered a case under section 304-B(death of a woman caused by any burns or bodily injury or occurs otherwise than under normal circumstances within seven years of her marriage), IPC and 498-A( dowry demand) of the IPC.
