Rajinder Singh, 26, husband of slain orchestra dancer Kulwinder Kaur, aka Janu, died under mysterious circumstances in Malout town of Muktsar district, around 50 km from here, on Wednesday.
He was the complainant and key witness in Kulwinder’s murder, who was shot dead while performing at a wedding function at Maur Mandi in Bathinda district in December last year.
Rajinder’s family held Kulwinder’s parents responsible for his death. His father Sukhdev Singh, who resides in Bathinda, said Rajinder used to stay with Kulwinder’s parents in Malout. He alleged he got a call from Rajinder’s in-laws around 2:30am, asking them to visit Malout as he had fallen unconscious. On reaching there, they found their son had died, Sukhdev said in his complaint.
Kulwinder’s father Baldev Singh, in his statement to the police, claimed Rajinder used to reside with his parents in Bathinda. He alleged Rajinder’s family brought him to Malout in the wee hours of Wednesday in an unconscious state.
“We took Rajinder to a local hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead,” Baldev told the police.
Investigation officer (IO) Jagdish Singh said following Sukhdev’s complaint, Rajinder’s body was sent to the local government hospital for its post-mortem examination.
“Required action will be taken only after ascertaining the exact cause of death,” he said.
The Bathinda police had booked an Akali leader’s son and five others for the murder of Kulwinder Kaur, 25, after one of them allegedly shot her during their friend’s wedding at Maur Mandi on the night of December 4. She was employed with an orchestra group based at Sardulgarh in Mansa district..
