Suspecting his wife's character, a man along with his family allegedly tried to kill her with a sharp-edged weapon in Salem Tabri area here on Friday.

The woman had been admitted to the civil hospital, while her husband, Vijay Kumar, his mother Maya Devi, father Narinder Kumar and sister Neelam have been booked for attempt to murder.

Assistant sub-inspector Didar Singh said the woman was not fit enough to record her statement earlier. After taking the consent of doctors, the police recorded her statement on Sunday and have registered a case. He said the police have conducted raids for the arrest of the accused but they were absconding.

The victim, Anita Rani of Kabir Nagar, alleged that she was married to Vijay Kumar 18 years ago and they have three children. She alleged that her husband and in-laws had started harassing her for dowry. Her parents had paid Rs. 2.50 lakh, but their demands never ceased.

The victim alleged that her husband had attacked her with an intention to kill and when she cried for help, instead of helping her, the in-laws egged her husband on.
