I-Day eve: BJP to hold ‘Tiranga march’ at 215 places in Punjab

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Vijay Sampla on Friday announced a series of programmes to mark Independence Day.

“These programmes will remember the great souls who sacrificed their lives for the cause of independence, and will infuse patriotic fervour in the hearts and minds of Punjabis, especially the youth and children,” he said.

Being organised as a part of the national campaign ‘Azadi 70 -- Yaad Karo Qurbani’, these programmes will be kicked off with ‘Tiranga march’ at 215 places on August 13 and 14. The BJP youth wing will take out a ‘torch march’ at more than hundred places on August 14 and 16, and the party units will celebrate Raksha Bandhan with the armed forces on August 18.

“The farmers’ wing will organise a ‘shradhanjali sabha’ at Hussaniwala on August 19. Floral tributes will be paid to freedom fighters at Sunam, Malerkotla, Moga and Madhopur besides to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar at Ludhiana, Amritsar and Jalandhar, the following days, culminating in a ‘Tiranga yatra’ from Khatkarkalan to Jallainwala Bagh on August 22,” said Sampla.
