The income tax (I-T) department conducted various raids in Patiala on Friday, during which officials impounded the record of four business firms in the city.

Two of the firms, Jaspal Singh and Sons and Vidya Sagar and Narinder Kumar were from Nabha Gate and dealing in plywood and timber business.

The other two firms were dealing with PVC pipes and identified as Naseeb Chand and Company and Gupta Mill Store from Sanouri Adda area.

Meanwhile, several businessmen shut down their shops after the perception of the raids by the I-T department and came out in support the raided firms by gathering around the shops.

Additional commissioner Harjinder Singh informed that it was the part of the routine inspection by the Patiala office.

Harjinder said they had impounded the record of the said shops and it was being brought to the Patiala office. He said during the preliminary investigations, they had not found anything illegal in the records, but the systematic inspection of the record was on by the I-T officials.

Meanwhile, members of Veopar Bachao Sangharsh Committee organised a protest against the raids and also declared a bandh call on Saturday.
