The municipal corporation (MC) on Monday demolished an illegal structure raised by ward number 33 councillor Raghbir Singh Beera at a public park near Chand Cinema. The illegal construction was done without getting any approval from the MC.

Earlier, HT had also highlighted that the councillor had built an illegal structure in a park. MC had also issued a notice in this regard to the councillor.

On Monday evening, the MC team led by assistant town planner (ATP, headquarters) Kamaljeet Kaur demolished the illegal building. A team of around 20 police personnel was also present.

Sources said some people also tried to put political pressure on the MC team to stop action against the illegal construction, but the officials concerned continued the action.

It is pertinent to mention here that the construction was done even as high-tension power cables passed above the site. Some residents had also alleged that apart from a toilet, a big room was also constructed on the park premises.

However, Beera had earlier claimed that it is not an encroachment or illegal construction as the structure is meant for public.
