A 22-year-old girl of Shikar village under Ghuman police station was allegedly killed on the spot while she was trying to save her brother during a clash.Police have registered a case of murder against Sukhjeet Singh, who is at large.

Talking to mediapersons, the victim’s father, Jaswant Singh, said a dispute broke out between the victim’s brother, Balwant Singh, and their neighbour Sukhjeet when a cow of Balwant barged into Sukhjeet’s fields and damaged fodder.

But the matter was amicably resolved after the intervention of elder persons from the village. On Friday morning, Balwant’s son Kuldeep Singh, who was working in Amritsar, went to Sukhjeet Singh’s house to inquire about the dispute, but Sukhjeet started abusing him, he said.

The verbal dispute soon turned into ugly confrontation and both sides started pelting stones at each other, he said.

Getting information about the clash, Kuldeep’s sister Meenu rushed the spot to save her brother; however, a brick hurled by Sukhjeet hit her and she died on the spot, he said.

She was rushed to the Ghuman civil hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
