Doing a U-turn, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar said he was in race for the post of the Sikh body chief again.
In an interview to HT on September 28, Makkar had said he was not in the fray again. “I am prepared to move on and will not seek an extension. I will accept whatever my party decides,” he had said. However, talking to the media here on Saturday, Makkar said if given an opportunity, he was willing to serve as the SGPC chief for another term.
When questioned over the uniform civil code, the SGPC chief mistook it to “uniform dress code” and said: “Such a proposal could lead to public outcry. We have our own traditions and culture. How can be wear a south Indian dress,” Makkar said.
Earlier, Makkar participated in the concluding function of Khalsai Games held at Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Anandpur sahib.
