Heavy rain and hailstorm were met with a heavier voter turnout in the local municipal elections on Wednesday, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed most seats in the end.

The queues outside the voting booths got longer even as a thunderstorm built over. From morning to the end, the voting was continuous, thanks to the enthusiasm of first-time voters and women. Even people up to the age of 95 came out to vote for 15 seats in Sujanpur, of which the Bharatiya Janata Party took 10, while the Congress won three and the independents claimed two.
