In a suspected case of honor killing, a 21-year-old youth was killed at Rurke village here. The deceased was identified as Sandeep Singh; he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, after being seriously hurt on Monday.
The police registered a case against Sandeep for allegedly having raped a minor girl of his village on Monday on the statement of the girl and his family.
Station house officer of the Rurke police station said that on Monday afternoon, the girl's brother and uncle had found her in a compromising position with Sandeep.
Both of them attacked Sandeep with baseball bats and dealt several blows to his head and left him seriously injured.
Following this, the girl's family registered a case of rape against Sandeep after a medical examination.
Meanwhile, Sandeep was taken to the Government Rajindra Hospital from where he was referred to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh.
Now, the police have registered a murder case against the girl's brother, Mewa Singh, and uncle, Jagga Singh.
Senior superintendent of police, Snehdeep Sharma, said that though the police had started investigating the matter, it was too early to call it an honor killing.
"The deceased received serious injuries. The police has been conducting raids to nab the accused at the earliest," he said.
"Details of what exactly happened at the girl's residence and whether it is a case of honour killing will become clear once the accused have been arrested," added the SSP.
On the other hand, Sandeep's parents accused the girl's parents of hatching a conspiracy against their son owing to an old enmity. Sukhwinder Singh, uncle of the slain youth, said they had an old enmity with the girl's family and calling Sandeep to their house was pre-planned.
