Inadequate security arrangements at a regional hospital here may hamper medical services if the authorities fail to take concrete steps to improve the same.

It is pertinent to mention here that two incidents of manhandling of doctors took place on the hospital premises in a gap of just two days. The incident has forced the traumatised doctors to offer resignation on security grounds. The incidents have raised questions about the security arrangements on the hospital premises.

The hospital, which is already facing a staff crunch, is a central one not only for the Kullu people, but also for people from Mandi, Chamba and Lahaul and Spiti districts.

A local resident, Ramesh Thakur, said the state government should provide adequate security to the people on hospital premises. Local MLA Maheshwar Singh, however, condemned the act and said he asked the police authorities to look into the matter.

Kullu assistant superintendent of police Nihal Chand, meanwhile, produced five accused Himanshu Thakur Tegubehar, Vijender Thakur Kolibehar, Raman Deep Mahol, Rupesh alias Rubi Hurla and Rakesh from Kharal village of the district at a local court here, from where all were released on bail.
