Congress Member of Parliament from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to include Ludhiana in NDA's plan of "100 developed cities of India".
Bittu, in a letter to the PM and union minister for urban development Venkaiya Naidu, stated that Ludhiana, known as industrial capital of Punjab, is house to thousands of medium and small scale industries.
Bittu added that in July 2009, International Finance Corporation (IFC) had ranked Ludhiana as the easiest location to do business in India.
"The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry had also echoed the similar views,"he said.
"The industry has grown leaps and bounds in the illustrious city but still there remain numerous shortcomings with respect to urban infrastructure,"the letter states, adding it was ironic that a city which as per World Bank (WB) report "Doing Business in India-2009"stated that Ludhiana was the most adept place to carry out business transactions did not have even proper urban infrastructure.
He also appealed to the PM that during his maiden visit to Ludhiana during the general elections, he himself had promised to make the town an industrial model.
"Without proper and requisite infrastructure development, the dream of making the city an industrial hub will remain unfulfilled,"he added.
