The Inclusive Education Volunteer Association, Ludhiana, burnt the effigy of the Punjab government over salary issues in front of mini-secretariat on Friday. The volunteers also held a rally in which, they raised slogans against the state government.

There are 100 volunteers in Ludhiana who are teaching at resource centres under Inclusive Education for Disabled.

The volunteers are demanding salaries according to the grade pay and promotions from volunteers to resource teachers in inclusive education. Right now, these volunteers are given Rs 4,500 salary a month, while resource teachers are getting Rs 19,000 a month.

Gurwinder Singh, president of the association, said, “We were appointed in 2008 at village level on a meagre salary of Rs 4,500, which makes it difficult for us to earn bread and butter for our families. So we demand hike in our salary and promotions should be given to our volunteers.”
