The British Columbia Teacher Regulation Branch has issued a 25-year teaching ban on a former Surrey high school teacher serving a life sentence for murdering his pregnant wife.
Mukhtiar Singh Panghali was convicted of second-degree murder of his 4 months pregnant wife in March 2011. Manjit Panghali, 31, went missing after attending a prenatal yoga class in Surrey on Oct 18, 2006. Her charred remains were found in Delta five days later. An autopsy revealed she had been strangled. Panghali, who waited 26 hours before reporting his wife was missing, received the mandatory sentence of life in prison with no parole eligibility for 11 years.
Convicted murderer Mukhtiar Panghali is being sued by the family of his dead wife over items from their matrimonial home that remain unaccounted for.
The panel did not have authority to issue a permanent ban.
