Miscreants are on prowl and industrialists lately are their targets. After the kidnapping of the son of an industrialist, another industrialist and his father had a narrow escape when miscreants launched a murderous attack on them in a bid to rob them of their valuables on Rahon road late on Thursday. The miscreants had attacked the father-son duo with an axe and their Toyota Fortuner SUV got damaged.

Hitesh Tangri, 28, a resident of Udham Singh Nagar, owns Mani Taxtile Mills and a cigarette factory, said he immediately sounded the Meharban police. When he contacted the police on Friday, he was told that they were busy with the VVIP duties in the wake of deputy chief minister's city visit and had no time to look into his complaint.

Hitesh said, around 9.30pm on Thursday, when he and his father were returning home, miscreants tried to stop their car by parking a vehicle in the middle of the road near Meharban village on Rahon road. Hitesh said as he was trying to speed away, the miscreants hit the car with an axe.

“We are in a state of shock. The miscreants could have kidnapped us or even killed us. I drove to the Meharban police station and complained to the cops about the incident,” said Hitesh.

“On Friday, when I contacted the police about what action they had taken on my complaint, the cops said they would talk to me in the evening as they were busy with the VVIP duties throughout the day,” he added.

Hitesh said the miscreants were six to eight in numbers. After the incident, they drove away one of the cars towards Sutlej river and other one towards Meharban village.

Meharban SHO inspector Jatinder Jit Singh said the police had initiated investigations soon after receiving the information. He said they had asked the industrialist to lodge a formal complaint so that an FIR could be lodged.
