The kin of a newly born male, that died within two days after birth, staged a dharna and blocked the traffic for more than two hours on the Gurdaspur-Dinanagar road in front f Bahri Hospital in Dinanagar on Friday.

The family of the infant blamed the Bahri Hospital doctors for the infant's death. They lifted the dharna after SP (D) Jagjit Singh Saroa intervened and promised of prompt legal action against the doctors.

The Dinanagar police booked Dr.Gullu under section 304-A punishment for culpable homicide, not amounting to murder). However, no arrest has been made so far.

Wife of Prem Chand of Magrala village, who was admitted at Bahari Hospital on July 21, gave birth to a male child two days later.

The doctors advised the parents to take the child in other hospital as his condition deteriorated. The parents took the child to a private hospital on July 25 where the child died.

The family of the child accused the doctors of the Bahri Hospital for de-reliction of duty and said the doctors should have asked to shift the infant in other hospital earlier had they detect his disease. The Dinanagar police exhumed the body of the infant and got its autopsy done at the civil hospital.

Saroa said the police would take further action on receiving the post-mortem report.
