An injured nilgai that had strayed into the army cantonment area on the Patiala-Sangrur Road was rescued by a local wildlife team and taken to the deer park in Bir Motibagh Wildlife Sanctuary on Tuesday.

Officials said they were intimated by a passer-by about an animal lying on the main road near the army cantonment area. On reaching the spot, the team of five wildlife personnel found the animal’s left leg fractured and ferried it to the deer park in their vehicle.

Dr Surinder Singh, in-charge of Deer Park Sanctuary, said the nilgai was probably hit by a speeding vehicle leading to the fracture in its leg, adding that the animal was being treated and would soon be released in the forest area.
