Led by Abhay Chautala, the leader of opposition in the Haryana assembly, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) began its protest against the hike in power rate outside the electricity department office, Shakti Bhawan, in Sector 6 here on Monday.
On the first day of the agitation, which will continue till December 30, past and present state legislators and parliamentarians of the party reached the venue. Addressing the gathering, Chautala condemned the government for putting burden on the citizens. He said the government was creating such an atmosphere where an honest person would find it impossible to pay the bill.
Chautala and other party members also submitted a memorandum to chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar at his residence in the morning.
Chautala said that from November 24 to November 30, former chief parliamentary secretary Rampal Majra would lead the protest, following which state party president Ashok Arora would take over the reins.
Various cells of the party, under their respective heads, would protest at the venue from 11 am to 4 pm on all working days till December 30. From December 10 onwards, the party units from Naraingarh, Ambala Cantonment, Ambala City, Mullana, Sadhaura, Jagadhri, Yamunanagar, Radaur, Thanesar, Ladwa, Pehowa, Shahbad, Kalayat and Kaithal will take turns to protest outside the power department here.
Chautala said that senior party leaders RS Chaudhary, MS Malik, BD Dhalia and NS Malhan would be coordinating the agitation.
