An inmate was allegedly attacked inside the Bathinda Central Jail near Gobindpura village here by fellow inmates, leaving him seriously injured Sunday morning.

The injured, Jagtar Singh, is an undertrial and was nabbed with illegal weapons on August 3 with two others and sent to judicial custody on August 5. The injured was admitted to Civil Hospital.

Jail superintendent Sukhwinder Singh Sahota couldn’t be contacted. Nathana police station SHO Sanjeev Mittal said the jail authorities have reported such an attack, but they still are to act as they were waiting for the report in this connection from Civil hospital where injured is hospitalised.

The jail was in the news earlier this year also, when an undertrial was attacked on January 26 by four inmates and allegedly shot the video of the thrashing too. The jail department had then suspended two employees for dereliction in duty.
