Criticising the Municipal Corporation (MC) for its failure in providing smoother roads in the city, a group of Congress councillors on Wednesday asked MC officials to bring impartiality in functioning by installing boards showing details of future projects in each ward.
Addressing media persons here, councillors and Congress leaders led by leader of opposition Jagdish Raja said, "The corruption is heavily affecting the functioning of the MC. All the roads of the city are in ramshackle condition and it all can be contributed to the carelessness of the MC officials."
"In the coming days, the MC is claiming to start rapid developmental projects in the city. The congress party demands to install boards showing the details of project in each ward wherever MC is spending money for development. The board should contain information like Project Name, name and contact number of contractor, SDO/JE concerned, amount being spent and life cycle of the project. It will help to bring the sense of responsibility among the contractors and concerned officials also," he added.
"Right now, no one knows who the contractor was? Who was the supervisor on MC behalf and what the life cycle of the project is. Further, we also suggest to hold at-least 25 percent of the payment of contractors and it should be made after the maintenance period is over," Raja added.
Raja, on this occasion, also criticised the decision of MC to use inter-locking tiles on different roads. "Previously too, the roads which were built using interlocking tiles had become dilapidated. Now again the corporation has decided to use interlocking tiles again. We have decided that Congress councillors, in each ward will not allow lying of interlocking tiles in their wards. It is just a sheer wastage of money and time."
Congress leaders Rajinder Beri, Manoj Arora, Kuldeep Singh, Nirmal Singh, Paramjeet Singh and Councillors Pardeep Singh Rai, Tarsem Singh Lakhotra, Baldev Singh, Pawan Kumar were among the prominent persons who addressed the media-persons.
Speakers, in their address, also flayed the mushrooming of illegal constructions in the city.
"All is happening under the nose of ruling party leaders. In ward no 40, the Congress councillor along with workers halted the construction work going at one of the place after getting orders from MC commissioner but two days later, on recently gone Saturday and Sunday, the pending work was completed under the protection of MC officials again," said Pardeep Singh Rai, a councillor from ward number 40.
