Moga district police on Monday claimed to have busted inter-state car-lifters gang by arresting its four members, including kingpin Jagseer Singh, and recovered eight new vehicles worth Rs 75 lakh from them.
The gang members used to steal cars from Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Panchkula and Delhi and later used to sell them in the market.
The investigations revealed that the gang which was operating for last 4-5 years so far had stolen more than three dozen vehicles and sold them. Only two vehicles were sold after preparing fake documents.
Announcing this here, Moga SSP Surjit Singh Grewal claimed that the gang was busted on May 16 when one of the gang member Jagrup Singh was arrested at a police naka at Moga bypass with one stolen Safari vehicle and on whose disclosure police registered a case against the four gang members.
The SSP said on Saturday late evening all the three remaining gang members, including kingpin Jagseer Singh Bheikha, Jagdeep Singh and Tejinder Singh who were also travelling in a stolen new Safari were intercepted at Moga canal bridge on Moga-Ferozepur road.
On the disclosure statement of Jagseer Singh, the police party of Moga conducted a raid at the Haveli of Jagdeep Singh Chhanjanwali and recovered all the remaining six vehicles from there, he added.
The gang members facing at least 30 cases of vehicle-lifting in various parts of the region, including Delhi, Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Patran, the SSP said.
Police produced the three accused in the court which remanded them to two-day police remand. Jagroop Singh was already in judicial custody.
