The international Women's Day, which is an initiative to observe a day which reflects women's progress, was celebrated in parts of the district on Sunday. Despite being a holiday, several schools here organised functions, which were attended by a large number of women.
The main function was held at a local Bachat Bhawan and additional district magistrate Himanshu Shekhar Chaudhry was the chief guest for the occasion.
Speaking on function, he lauded the role of women in uplifting the society and said that the government was providing all sorts of facilities for women to become independent. He said that it was a matter of great pride that women were marching ahead along with their male counterparts in all fields.
On this occasion, he honored three social workers of the district for doing a good job of helping other women stand on their feet by starting new avocations.
While addressing a sub-divisional level function at Bijheri, chief parliamentary secretary Inder Dutt Lakhanpal said that the gram panchyats doing well in the field of protecting women would be rewarded by the state government.
He said that the Hamirpur district was doing well in order to protect girl child and such steps should continue in the future.
