With the arrest of five persons, the police on Saturday claimed to have busted an interstate gang of vehicle lifters and recovered seven stolen trucks and 600 grams of heroin from their possession.
The accused have been booked under Sections 392, 379, 411 and 420 of the Indian Penal code (IPC).
Addressing mediapersons, Tarn Taran superintendent of police (SP-detective) Harvinder Singh said on a tip-off, a police team headed by an inspector-level official arrested Harpinder Singh, alias Pinder, a resident of Sarhali Kurd and recovered a truck which was stolen by him from Delhi.
After Pinder's interrogation, the police later arrested Ravinder Singh of New Delhi, Gurcharan Singh, alias Channa, a reident of Sarhali Khurd and recovered 600 grams of heroin worth Rs 3 crore in the international market from their possession. A stolen truck was also seized from them.
The superintendent of police said after working on the information provided by the three arrested persons, the police took into custody two more persons, identified as Harjit Singh and Jagjit Singh, both residents of Shaheed village.
Five more stolen trucks were recovered from the two, taking the total number of trucks recovered to seven.
The superintendent of police further said the seized vehicles were stolen from Mumbai, Delhi and from various places in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
“During questioning, the accused confessed that they had sold more than 40 stolen trucks till date. They were also in the narcotic business for some time,” the SP added.
A case has been registered against them at the Sarhali police station in this connection.
