The Istri Jagriti Manch staged a demonstration in protest against the musical show of Punjabi singer Geeta Zaildar in a private college on Tuesday night. The manch also took out a march in the city.
The protesters also sat on dharna outside the college. When workers tried to enter the college premises, the police restrained them from moving towards the college and exchanged arguments with each other.
President of manch Gurbakhsh Kaur Sangha said songs of singers such as Geeta Zaildar promoted vulgarity in society and gave wrong messages to people, especially the youth.
She alleged that her songs had objectionable scenes, which were regularly shown on TV.
She said when she along with workers tried to enter the college, the police stopped their way and placed a temporary naka to restrain them.
She said the manch would also hold a protest march against Speed Records Company in Jalandhar on Friday.
