After the Congress fielded sitting MLA from Nabha, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot as a Lok Sabha candidate from the Fatehgarh Sahib parliamentary constituency, it will not be a cakewalk for SAD candidate, realtor- turned- politician Kulwant Singh.

In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, there was a tough competition between the candidates of Akali- BJP combine and the Congress but the latter managed to corner the seat.

The Congress got lead from five assembly constituencies of Fatehgarh Sahib, Amloh, Khanna, Raikot and Amargarh.

Other political parties like the BSP, the Lok Bhalai Party(LBP), the Samajwadi Karntikari and even independent candidates fared very poorly.

Though the SAD- BJP combine was voted to power second consecutive time in the state in 2012, the situation seemed not to be in favour of the ruling government as again out of nine assembly constituencies, the SAD- BJP combine was able to win four seats in the vidhan sabha elections and the Congress managed to win five seats.
