The Industrial Training Institute at Nehranpukhar has found a place among the top 25 ITIs in the country. The only institute in Himachal to have been entrusted with imparting training according to the requirements of a specific industry, ITI, Nehranpuhkhar has been placed tenth in a nationwide survey conducted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
The ITI has hundred percent student pass out rate and a placement record of around 90%. It is also included in the scheme, launched by the central government, aimed at training the workers in selected ITIs according to the requirements of a specific industry and mandated to explore possibilities to impart training to the workers of industries located in their areas according to their requirements.
A survey conducted by ITI Nehranpukhar found industries, specially small and medium scale, mostly want a training course that is a blend of more than one trade. For example an industrial unit in Una district expressed its inclination to recruit more than 80% of trainees if training is imparted according to its needs.
ITI, Nehranpukhar after working out the modalities on syllabus and training has sent a proposal to the directorate general of employment and training, labour & employment ministry for its approval.
Prof BN Kashyap of the institute's management committee said various steps have been taken to make this institute a leading one and while irrelevant trades were closed down, ten new courses were introduced according to market demand. "Installation of the latest machinery for training, modernization of office, recruitment of staff for the newly introduced trades and setting up of a placement cell for campus recruitment were among the step to taken to strengthen the institute," he added.
