Hundreds of students of industrial training institutes (ITIs) at Malerkotla and Sunam boycotted their classes and held protest marches on Friday in their respective cities in favour of their demands.

The students, who held the march under the banner of the Punjab Students Union, raising anti- government slogans, demanded disbursal of scholarship money to students, appointments of more teaching staff, construction of new toilets, better drinking water facilities at the institutes and latest machines for practical classes.

A student leader said that the condition of the ITIs was very bad and students do not have clean toilets and safe drinking water facilities. He said that the government has not paid scholarship to the students for the past two years.

"Today's protest was a massage to the government, we will intensify the agitation at the state level, if the government fails to accept genuine demands of the students," he added.
