After his show of strength at Chappar Chiri two months ago, ousted Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar will hold another rally on Independence Day, to position himself as “political alternative” to the Akali-BJP combine and his old party in the 2017 Punjab elections.
“After my clarion call at Chappar Chiri to topple the corrupt government, I now invite all the honest and credible leaders of Punjab to unite under a mega alliance, whether they are from the AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) or wanting to quit the SAD, the Congress, or the BJP,” Brar said at a press conference here on Monday.
Brar said his “Punjabi Lokhit Abhiyan” had received a good response at public meetings in Jalandhar and Bathinda, claiming nearly 4,000 people had joined him as workers. “I want the Punjab elections to be issue-based as opposed to personality-based,” he said.
He didn’t rule out floating a party or contesting the elections.
