A Bharatiya Janata Party’s SC Morcha leader, Vidhi Chand, and a woman, Manjit Kaur, 40, were hacked to death allegedly by her estranged husband, son and father-in-law at Bhaini Gujran village here on Sunday.

Three people arrested for the double murder have been identified as woman’s estranged husband Jaswant Singh, son Angrez Singh and her father-in-law Dalip Singh.

The crime was committed at the house of Jaswant, who suspected Manjit of having illicit relations with Vidhi.

Manjit was staying at Vidhi’s house as a tanant as she was fighting a legal battle with her husband Jaswant. A court had recently pronounced a judgment in Manjeet’s favour, asking Jaswant to pay her suitable alimony.

On Sunday, Manjit and Vidhi went to Jaswant’s house to sort out differences. As they entered the house, Jaswant, his father Dalip and son Angrez hacked them to death using sharp-edged weapons, police said.

Police were called and the accused were arrested from the spot. A murder case has been registered.
