Hitting back at his Congress rival Capt Amarinder Singh, BJP nominee Arun Jaitley has said, "It is part of the disgraceful conduct of Amarinder that he has started issuing malicious and fake statements without understanding their implications."

In a written statement, Jaitley said, "The Capt has not had the benefit of formal higher education. I can therefore understand his lack of knowledge and understanding. He has questioned my motives in giving legal advice to clients. Only a man who has not worked for a living for the past few decades can question my legitimate right and obligation as a lawyer to give correct legal advice to litigants and clients."

"The rest of the statement issued by him besides being false is a result of frustration when faced with a certain defeat. Capt Amarinder is a man with dubious integrity He is being prosecuted under the Prevention of Corruption Act," he added.

Jaitley added that, "He can't match my integrity standards. Having been formally honoured as one of the county's highest tax payers, I have sacrificed more honest income for the cause of public life than what a dishonest politician can earn."
