Terming unemployment as a root cause of drug addiction, BJP candidate from Amritsar Arun Jaitley promised to upgrade the Sree Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport here to its "full capacity as it will provide immense employment opportunities in the area and help eradicate the menace of drug addiction".

Addressing a rally at Rajasansi, Jaitley said, "Around the world wherever there is an airport, a township has been developed in the surrounding areas. Not only big hotels, but also small hotels, rest houses or restaurants come into existence. As this airport also has a cargo terminal, its development will help enhance commercial activities which will help cultivate a spirit of entrepreneurship among the local businessmen ."

Urging the people to vote for BJP to make Narendra Modi the next prime minister, Jaitley said, "The Congress-led UPA regime has brought the nation to a pathetic condition during its ten-year rule. Today, NDA is a big hope and this is the reason that Modi is getting a huge response wherever he is going."

Promising to bring small scale industry to Rajasansi and adjoining belts, Jaitley said, "Today if drugs are an issue in Punjab, unemployment is a major cause for this menace. Once the NDA comes to power, overall development of the airport and setting up industry in the area will be a priority. This will motivate the youth and also wean them away from drug addiction."

Addressing the rally, SAD leader Veer Singh Lopoke said that development in Punjab had always peaked whenever there had been NDA government at the Center as well as in Punjab.

Time has come to make a choice and we all must back Jaitley for development of the region," he added.
