Expressing fear about violence in the coming municipal corporation elections on June 10, Congress Legislative Party leader Sunil Jakhar today asked chief minister Parkash Singh Badal as to what more proof of vendetta did he need after the attack on the vehicles of an MLA and an ex-MLA in Mullanpur Dakha, besides similar attacks in other parts of the state during panchayat samiti elections on Thursday.

Briefing the reporters while displaying the vehicles damaged in the attacks here, Jakhar said, "It was a pre-planned attack to terrorise Congress workers and supporters" so that they do not turn up to vote." He apprehended that similar violence might be unleashed during the municipal corporation elections on June 10.

The CLP leader disclosed that he will be leading a delegation to meet the Governor to bring to his notice the state-sponsored terror resorted to in Punjab by the ruling alliance against the opposition. He said that the state government was playing a partisan role and was not prepared to listen to the genuine complaints by the Congress workers.

He said that the state party leadership had raised the matter with Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi and had sought central forces during the MC elections.

Jakhar said that the state government was withdrawing security cover from Congress leaders while on the other hand was giving security to even ordinary Akalis. Even terrorist victims have not been spared and the government had taken back their security also, the CLP leader claimed.
