Jalandhar-based Raghoo Puri (28) has got 110th rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil services examination. It was Raghoo’s second attempt with psychology as his optional subject.

After getting married, he left his job at Mahindra & Mahindra as a manager in its business strategy division in New Delhi to work hard to crack the civil services examination.

“I prepared with full dedication for a year after leaving the job. I was eyeing the administrative service even after getting a good job. If I had continued in my corporate job, I could have done quite well. But I still would have the regret of not serving the nation,” said Raghoo.

His father is into hotel business and he is the first in the family to be in government service.

Raghoo did his B.Tech in biotechnology from the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) of Panjab University, Chandigarh, and MBA in marketing from Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, before joining Mahindra & Mahindra where he worked for less than a year.

“I started preparing for the UPSC examination and taught part time Common Admission Test (CAT) aspirants. I owe a lot to my cousin Karan, my grandf ather and my parents who supported me to pre pare for the examination throughout,” he said. Raghoo said he would work hard and contribute in education sector to serve the nation.

He said his first preference would be administrative service followed by foreign services. Parents should give freedom to their children and believe in their potential, he added.
