The City ART Services Private Limited had been offering the services of the sperm bank and surrogacy from a rented accommodation in Gian Nagar of the city for the last one year in such a way that even residents of the locality were not aware of the developments. Dr Ramandeep Kaur was the general manager of the centre.

The premises is basically owned by England-based NRI Piyara Singh Sandhu. His son Jagtar Singh, who also lives in the UK, was well known to Dr Vishal Bhanot. He was the caretaker of the house and Dr Ramandeep Kaur started the centre with him as a co-partner as per the police. She holds a degree of Bachelor of electro homeopathy medicine and surgery. Dr Bhanot is state general secretary of the National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA) and was earlier district president of the association. His wife Dr Meenu Bhanot works in a city based fertility hospital.

After Bhanot’s arrest, a panel of NIMA, led by district head Dr Anil Nagrath, submitted an application of re-inquiry into the case. His wife has filed an application with the police for reinvestigation. Later, Dr Nagrath told HT it seems Dr Bhanot has not any role in this case as he is a senior doctor and a genuine person. “We have also set up an internal probe in this case”, claimed district chief.

The arrested accused was produced before duty magistrate and Dr Ramandeep along with Seema were sent to police custody for two days while Dr Bhanot, Asha, Brij Mohan and Harjinder Kaur were sent to the Kapurthala jail.
