The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has requested Jalandhar deputy commissioner Varun Roojam to ensure that no construction takes place in prohibited areas of historic Nakodar Tombs and Kos Minar in Nakodar.

The directions, issued by the Chandigarh ASI circle, state that Mohahmad Momin's Tomb, Haji Jamal Tomb, and Kos Minar are monuments of national importance. The directions add that 100 m from these monuments had been declared prohibited. Distances up to 200m were in the regulated zone.

Law mandates no construction in the prohibited zone, while allows construction in the regulated area after nod from the director of cultural affairs.

The communication said that Rajan Bhalla of Baba Murad Shah road has raised unauthorized construction within prohibited and regulated area in utter violation of Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites (AMASAR) Act 1,958 and Amendment and Validation Act 2,010. It added that ASI has issued notice to violator but to no avail.
