A CCTV camera grab, a key of Hero Maestro scooter, two mobiles and a cap of the accused helped the city police to crack the double murder case in Model Town here late night on Tuesday.

Sujata Handa, 50, and her domestic servant Harish Kumar, 40, were killed by the robbers at their house in Model Town.

The crime was allegedly orchestrated by Ankush, a former employee of the Handa Collection, which belongs to the deceased’s family, his elder brother Vishal and three of their school mates. The police have arrested Vishal and Satish while three others are absconding.

Ankush wanted to take revenge of his insult when he was thrown out of the job by employer Prithvi Pal Handa three months ago when he took Rs 10,000 as salary advance, but started remaining absent from duty a month ago. The accused had been keeping a close watch on the activities of the Handa family for the past one month.

On Tuesday evening, when they found that both Prithvi Pal Handa and his son Jatin were not at home, Ankush, Malkeet and an unidentified accomplice barged into Handa’s house and locked the gate from inside while Satish kept a watch in the street.

They entered Sujata’s room, and injured her seriously by attacking her with hockey sticks and base bats. Then they attacked her servant. Then they killed Harish. The sudden arrival of Jatin made them leave the safe box in a car.

When Jatin found the gate closed, he, along with two others, scaled the wall to get into the house. He found his mother in a pool of blood. Then he took his mother to the hospital. In the meantime, the accused, who were on the first floor, fled. Malkeet’s cap and the key of the scooter, which they had parked in the same street, was found in the house.
