Two people, including a woman, were arrested and cases registered against four others --- all members of a gang --- on the charges of extorting money from innocent residents.
The six-member gang that included three women used to threaten their victims after getting them photographed or videographed in comprising postures with the women members. The situations were all doctored and the victim paid up in most cases, intending to avoid controversy. The gang had been active in Balachaur for the past months.
The complainant, Malkiat Singh, a resident of Hasanpur Khurd village in Balachaur, approached the police on January 7 after he was trapped
by the gang. Malkiat is a door-fitter.
The complainant claimed that on January 1, a woman Parveen Kumari called him to her house on the Mandiani Road on the pretext of installation of some doors and panels. At the house, Kumari and another woman he later identified as Neelam allegedly forced themselves on him in a sexual embrace and three accomplices of the three women clicked these pictures.
The gang then started demanding
Rs 70,000 for deleting the pictures and videos and for not making these public. He got away be handing over Rs 23,000 at the time and the offending material was to be deleted on the payment of the remaining amount.
On the complaint of Malkiat Singh, a case was registered against Parveen Kumari, Pinder, Neelam, Tuka, Kulwinder Singh and Balwinder Kumar at the Balachaur police station.
