The Jalandhar Improvement Trust (JIT) will soon conduct a demand survey for middle income group (MIG) flats in the Surya Enclave area which the trust is planning to develop.

Mukul Soni, superintendent engineer, JIT, said that the process of survey would start by next week.

The trust has around 3-acre reserved area at Surya Enclave. A few years ago, it had planned to construct around 190 super deluxe flats. But the project could not take off due to poor response of the people.

The JIT then decided to construct MIG flats only.

One of the major reasons for the failure of the super deluxe flats project was the high price of the flats set by the JIT.

The cost of a super deluxe flat was Rs 65 lakh and a flat consisted of three luxury bed rooms. The proposed MIG flats will be two-bed room flats.

Officials said that the cost of a MIG flat will be around Rs 40 lakh and the JIT has planned to develop around 150 MIG flats in the area. Depending on the response of the survey, the JIT will invite applications fort he flats.

Mukul Soni said that since the cost of the MIG flats is quite ‘reasonable’, they will receive good response from the public.
