Two days after a sub-inspector was killed after her scooter was hit by a car, another police personnel was killed at a ‘naka’ when a speeding four-wheeler ran over him at National Highway in Jalandhar on Monday morning. The 45-year-old constable died on the spot.
Deceased has been identified as Karamjeet Singh, a resident of Sangrur and posted at 27 Battalion in PAP Jalandhar.
This incident came two days after sub-inspector Jagdeep Kaur, 27, who was working with the Jalandhar police commissionerate, was killed after her scooter was hit by a speeding SUV in Jalandhar on Saturday.
As per the information, two more cops, constable Rajinder Singh and Parminder Singh, who were part of the patrolling team at a police checking point on the highway near Pragpur village, have also sustained injuries.
Paramjeet Singh in-charge of Pragpur police post said that driver of a Tata four wheeler (PB-10-DZ-6257), Daleep Sahni of Ludhiana, was in an inebriated condition when the mishap took place.
“The drunk driver has failed to spot the ‘naka’ and due to over speeding he rammed his truck into the barricades before crushing the constable to death,” said Paramjeet.
He said that driver has been arrested on the spot and a case will be registered on murder and rash driving charges against him.
Meanwhile, this was not the first incident that cop died at a ‘naka’, earlier in an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Joginder Parsaad in Jalandhar city police was crushed to death after he was run over by a speeding truck at National Highway-1 near focal point locality on November 27 last year. Two similar incidents had also reported in Kapurthala district last year.
