JALANDHAR: Jalandhar city is one of the 500 railway stations which will come under free Wi-Fi zone. Divisional railway manager (DRM) Anuj Prakash said this on Monday.
As announced on Sunday, Google will help set up the base of free Wi-Fi at 500 Indian railway stations.
The Ferozepur division has told HT that there are eleven railway stations from the Ferozepur division that have been selected for the free Wi-Fi zone facility. Some of the railway stations that the DRM mentioned were Jalandhar, Jalandhar Cantonment, Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Beas, Amritsar and Jammu Tawi.
Anuj Prakash also informed that preparations regarding the same have been going on for quite some time.
The project is being carried out under Railtel Corporation of India, a government of India enterprise, that focuses on providing broadband and multimedia networks across the country in addition to the modernisation of train operations and administration network system.
When asked about the timeframe for the completion of the project, he said, “Right now, I can’t comment on it since Railtel is looking after the project but we are expecting it soon.”
How will the free Wi-Fi facility work?
For availing the Wi-Fi facility at the selected railway station, one has to start the Wi-Fi feature in their mobile phones, and enter the Passenger Name Record (PNR) number which will directly connect them to the free Wi-Fi facility.
It is to be mentioned that one can only avail this facility for a certain time period only.
As informed by the divisional railway official, one will get the free Wi-Fi facility at the railway station for half-an-hour after which one has to pay for the amount of data used.
