The construction on the 500-metre stretch of the road from BSF Chowk to PAP Chowk here will finally begin on Saturday.

The road is being closed for three days and the police have chalked out the traffic diversion routes. "From Saturday, 8.30am onwards, the road is being closed for vehicular traffic," additional deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Sukhdev Singh said.

"The work will be completed in three days and on Tuesday the road will be opened for traffic movement," he added.

Diversion routes for buses

Buses coming from Amritsar side will be diverted towards the city from Bidhipur railway crossing and passing through Maqsudan, Workshop Chowk and Kapurthala Chowk will reach the bus stand.

For traffic from the Pathankot side, buses will move towards Maqsudan over-bridge from Pathankot Road Chowk and then passing through Workshop Chowk and Kapurthala Chowk will reach the bus stand.

The buses from the bus stand will move towards BSF Chowk and pass through Guru Nanakpura road to Chogguti before leading towards Pathankot, Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur sides.

The heavy traffic coming from Chandigarh and Ludhiana intended to move towards Amritsar and Pathankot will be diverted from Rama Mandi Chowk and via Adampur the buses will lead towards Amritsar. The buses coming from these directions will be able to reach the bus stand through a marked passage on the road for the purpose.
