Following disputes in the family, a mother and her son committed suicide by jumping before Katihar Express at Ram Nagar railway crossing on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Tripata Devi (55) and her son Raman Kumar Sehdev (33) of Kishanpura locality. They were identified after Government railway Police (GRP) recovered Aadhaar card of Sehdev from his trousers and reached his house.

The residents of Kishanpura blamed Tripata’s daughter-inlaw Monika for disputes in the family that brought the victims under mental pressure and forced them to take the extreme step. The neighbours also revealed that the mother and son had also attempted suicide two times earlier.

Earlier, the GRP had registered a case under Section 174 of CRPC but following the statement of Raman’s neighbour Ramesh Kumar, an FIR under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) has been registered against Monika and three others.

As per information, Sehdev had married Monika of Ludhiana seven years ago and had a son from the marriage. Sehdev was running RK Welding shop in Focal Point and his father Rajinder Kumar died five years ago. Sehdev’s brotherin-law Varinder Kumar of Model House alleged that the victim’s relations with his wife were not good over his less income.

GRP’s assistant sub-inspector Surinder Singh said the bodies have been shifted to civil hospital for post-mortem.

The ASI said that no suicide note has been recovered and bodies will be handed over to the family on Tuesday.
