Doctors at the Central Hospital and Maternity Home here took out a 18" x 9" fibroid tumour weighing 12 kg from the stomach of a patient after an operation lasting for hours on Wednesday.

40-year-old Parmjit Kaur, a resident of Banga in Nawanshahr district, was admitted to the hospital for operation to remove a large-sized fibroid tumour by hysterectomy. She was also operated upon two times earlier for cyst but had not been relieved of pain.

The team of doctors comprised Amita Sharma,  Rakesh Vig,  Dinesh Puri and SD Loyal.

This was a rare operation of such a big size of fibroid uterus. It was occupying about two-thirds of abdominal cavity and extending to important structures inside the abdomen.

The colour and shape of the tumour was very deceptive and only the team of senior doctors was able to remove it with their expertise and skill. The patient was now under observation and she would be relieved soon.
