The police on Friday arrested two clerks posted with the deputy commissioner's office here for forging signatures of the additional deputy commissioner for renewal of an arms licence.

“We have arrested clerks Balwant Singh and Gurpal Singh for forgery, as the duo connived the forging of signatures of the ADC,” station house officer (SHO) Vijay Kanwar Pal said.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to the forgery and said that Balwant was approached by Ravinder Singh, who wanted to renew his arms licence. Balwant in turn introduced the applicant to Gurpal Singh, who forged the signatures of ADC Parneet Bhardwaj, the SHO said.

The forgery came to the notice of the staff at the Suvidha Centre, who on suspicion, forwarded the records to ADC Bhardwaj, who confirmed that his signatures had been forged, the SHO said.

The ADC then informed the deputy commissioner Shruti Singh, who approached the police commissioner for action.

A case under sections 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 471(using as genuine a forged document) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused at the New Baradari police station.
