The Jalandhar rural police on Sunday arrested two men during special checking and claimed to have seized 3.60-quintal poppy husk from them.
Accused Dharmpal and Kashmir Singh are both from Phillaur, and allegedly had brought the contraband in a Tata Safari car. Superintendent of police (detective) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said Shiv Kumar, in charge of the special police staff, had led the special operation based on a secret input.
"The ambush party flagged down the car near Sahibabad on Tehg village road and found 18 bags of poppy husk inside. The people in the car tried to flee," said the SP. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was lodged.
The accused face criminal cases in Goraya, Phillaur and other police jurisdictions of the district as well.
