40-year-old man held for attempt to rape minor

A 40-year-old man has been arrested for attempting to rape a 8-year-old child in Chanthu Brahmana village on Tuesday.

The accused, a neighbour of the victim, allegedly lured the victim and her friend with a motorcycle ride when both were playing in front of victim's house late in the evening. He took them to the outskirts of the village dragged her to the fields and tried to outrage her modesty. The other girl was told to stand by the parked motorcycle. The accused was said to be in an inebriated condition.

The girl, somehow, managed to flee and  and narrated the incident to her grandfather, who registered an attempt to rape case.
 
The accused was arrested and produced in court on Thursday. The court remanded him to police custody till Friday. Investigating officer Paramjt Singh said that the accused worked as a driver and was unmarried.
