543 of the 1,236 booths declared sensitive

The stage is set for polling in to 11 panchayat samitis and the zila parishads to be held on Sunday. A total of 1,236 polling booths have been set up across the district, of which 543 have been sensitive and elaborate security arrangements have been made.


Of the 543 sensitive booths, 497 fall in the rural belt and 46 are under the juridiction of police commissionerate, deputy commissioner Shruti Singh said. Polling parties have been sent to the polling stations.

For the zila parishads, three candidates haeve already been elected unopposed, while nine have been elected unopposed to the panchayat samitis.

The DC added that 7.80 lakh voters would vote in the elections and more than 6,000 employees have been deployed to conduct the elections.
Meanwhile, rural police SSP Yurinder Singh Hayer said that senior police officials had been deployed to supervise the large posse of police deployed on poll duty.

ADCP Navjot Mahal, who is heading the security arrangements for poll, said that personnel had been deployed to ensure the smooth conduct of polls.
